I'm not even going to try to explain all the things that got in the way of this post. Illness, Arisia, SAD, and more. Just click the links, enjoy some tunes.

Ummet Ozcan doing something atypical for him, at least at first pass. "The Next Episode" is an old-school Dr. Dre rap tune from the turn of the millenium that featured Snoop Dogg both on lead vocals and in the lyrics. The opening and ending minute are much more typical Ozcan club hard bounce. The result is ... interesting, but I don't think it entirely works.

Following more (old) Ummet Ozcan links I came across this one, "Revolution", which is a nice vocal-fronted house track. The voices are Nervo, a pair of Australian DJ sisters that I bumped into way back in 2012. Not well-known in the US, they've been the writing and producing duo behind a number of EDM hits in this decade, including at least one Grammy Award winner. R3HAB is the stage name of an Arab DJ (Fadil El Ghoul) out of Amsterdam. The trio here put together a solid banger - again, not exceptional but enough to get me following both Nervo and R3HAB to see what they're up to.

The two options are the original track and the "Vocal Mix" - I prefer that one as I think Nervo's voices are the best part of this mix. The original has a lot more electronica.

Major gear shift here. Arlissa is a singer-songwriter with a strong and interesting voice. Here she's doing a simple duet with a piano and you get a good sense for what she can do. The video is from last year, and it's good to see since her previous stuff was from back in 2013, when I blogged her first EP. If you want more in this vein I recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qICSKCbPdQ which is her covering Rihanna's "Higher" and she cuts loose a bit more on that performance. Definitely one to watch.

Jump styles again. This was actually sent to me by my younger kid and I was surprised - who knew the kid was into this? I recognized the voice as someone I knew but had to look it up - it's Mike Shinoda, better known for Linkin Park vocals. Fort Minor is his side project and it's straight-up hip-hop, which I hear is Shinoda returning to his musical roots.

Jaden Smith is doing his own thing and it's... kind of interesting. This track mixes obvious Western and EDM influences with more traditional rap and hip-hop styles.

This blog post could have been longer but I'll leave you with this one, which I promise is worth your extra two minutes. It's a musical/Irish dance production title "Freedom" done by Kieran Hardiman, Alan Kenefick and Ciaran Plummer three easy-on-the-eyes dancers doing their thing to The Glitch Mob's "Mind of a Beast". Pygment found this one on the Mob's FB page.

That last link was fun. Was there significance in the Michael Jackson t-shirt?
