There are only three items this week in part because The Glitch Mob put out a download-only hour-long set that I've been rocking out to, plus the last item I'll talk about is massive and huge and amazing and has soaked up lots of my listening time. Let's start with two short items first:

Question: what would Jane's Addiction (http://janesaddiction.com/) sound like if you took their core sound, hid it away for about eight years, and then let it loose in today's more electronic environment? Answer: It would sound like this. "Irresistible Force" rocks hard - the guitar work is particularly excellent - and the whole thing is tight. This is the second single from their upcoming album, assuming they can hold a line-up together long enough to get it done.

AWOLNATION (http://awolnationmusic.com) has been around for a bit over a year, but they've just popped onto my radar from several sources in the past few weeks. "Sail" - the first linked video - is taken by a lot of their fans as being their signature sound, to the point of being unhappy when they do things in different style. Sail was a commercial chart success and has been used in a couple ads. It's kind of power-rock, and kind of goth with some angsty lyrics thrown in for good measure. Still, it's a good tune with an excellent beat/bass/clap line.

The second tune, "Burn it Down", has a similar bass line but it's under a much faster melody/vocal that owes a lot to rockabilly and punk rock. I can see why fans who expected to get more dark goth stuff would've been surprised by this change-up, but to my ears it sounds every bit as good.

Mike Simonetti's "Capricorn Rising" is 4:25 of pure, unadulterated, Jan Hammer-esque 1990s electronica groove with guitars and keyboards. I've admitted before that I love Hammer's stuff and this is right up my alley. For some reason the accompanying video is all 1970s-era stuff, and it's a little surprising how much of that I recognize as it flashes by. Gods I'm old.

And now for something... big. Radio Soulwax are sometimes better known as "2 Many DJs" under which handle they have put out long-form compliations and mash-ups for many years. I first heard "This is Radio Soulwax" in 2006 and was blown away by the Dewaele brothers' work. This latest effort is a live streaming Web site that features 24 1-hour sets, with accompanying visuals. The amount of effort going into this is mind-blowing.

As you'd expect with 24 hours of music the results are mixed. There are bits I like more and bits I like less. I certainly haven't been able to hear all of it, but I keep trying. Load up the site and give it a listen yourself.
