This week in music links
Nov. 16th, 2012 02:21 pmShort day today so I'm just going to snap out a couple of links I've had sitting open for a bit and end with a brain-bender. You've been warned.

Last time I noted "Island" which featured Adrina Thorpe's vocals. I went hunting and found she's also recently done this track fronting for Aly & Fila and Roger Shah. Like the other track, this one is mostly vocal trance, but with good high energy throughout. I like her work and have gotten on her mailing list. She just put out her second album so I'm hoping there will be more good tracks soon.

I run hot and cold on the new (or nu) disco. This, by Mexican DJ Bufi (http://www.myspace.com/bufirolas#!) falls on the hot side. It's definitely electro-disco, but with the dirty fuzz edge that I associate with good funk.

Django Django are a UK-based psychedelic-music quartet who put out their first album early this year. This is a remix of their "Life’s a Beach" track by Steve Mason (http://stevemasontheartist.com/) of The Beta Band. Beta Band never made much headway in the US but were acclaimed in the UK and are listed as inspirations by people you have heard of, like Oasis and Radiohead. Mason has been on his own for a while now, doing mostly remixes and dub reinterpretations. This one is not dub; instead it keeps the direct pyschedelica feel of the original. And yes, it's another phat brassy horns track I like. I'm sure you're all shocked.

There are mash-ups and there are mash-ups. The first one is a live mash-up that is worth seeing to believe. As MizA put it - I hope Psy is enjoying the shit out of his year. The second one... well, Mr Ringel, serve to you.
