Music, by force of will and good fortune
Aug. 21st, 2015 05:20 pmOK, I've been promising this music post for a while. I've had some open tabs and then I got handed two excellent pointers over on G+ that I want to re-share, so those will be at the end.

Henry Hacking mixes DubVision's "Heart" with OneRepublic's "If I Lose Myself". It's a little high-pitched and sort of sappy for me, but it's worth a listen.

I generally loathe "Wonderwall" mash-ups but "Lean On" has been used in some good mixes so it's a question of how much you like the resulting blend. JM PROSOUND starts off with a slow intro but by the time he hits the "1-2-3 JUMP!" point the track is really rockin' along. This is very much a get-up-and-dance mix.

An interesting first entry from someone new to me. It's a five-way of mostly pop tunes that caught my eye because of the David Bowie mention, though there's not much Bowie in this mash until you hit 2/3 of the way through. I'm not sure it works - the whole thing teeters on the edge of trainwreck, but another worth a listen entry.

It has been a while since I heard something from Loo & Placido that I thought was worth blogging. This tune is an interesting three-way mash with a strong driving beat. By which this is the sort of music I'll play when I need to cover some highway distance and want music to push me along.

In the realm of "things you've heard a million times" you can put "Eye of the Tiger" covers, samples, and remixes. So why link this track? Because it's an interesting vocal take on the riff we all know so well. It's not a complete rework of the song, which I would have liked, but a very modern interpretation from Berger&Shaqiri with help from Chris Meid.

From the "you gotta hear this" recommendations comes one you really gotta listen to. Jetta, a UK-based singer who has been around for a few years, got this cover of Ten Years After's "I'd Love to Change the World" used in some movie trailers and with good reason. It's a lyrical and haunting remake of the tune that cuts out some of the original lyrics in favor of echoing electronica.

Naomi Scott (http://naomiscottmusic.com/) is one of those really talented vocalists I love to hear but would never have found except for my friends. There's a lot going on in this seemingly simple track, not least of which is the way the trio harmonize. It's got folk overtones, jazz rhythms, and that same driving energy I mentioned earlier.
