Herewith five selections that, I claim, are unlike what you're used to hearing. They're not the usual stuff I post, and each of them is probably only going to appeal to a segment of the audience. So if you're in a mood to expand your musical horizons give these a try.

Miami rapper SpaceGhostPurrp (https://www.youtube.com/user/SpaceeGhostPurrpMJ23) might have one of the most unusual stage names in existence. He's also got an unusual style - it's kind of rap, and kind of noire and kind of electronica. You need to listen at least once, and understand that rap encompasses more than knucklehead crap.

Mr Fogg's "A Little Letting Go" gets remixed by Maribou State (http://www.facebook.com/mariboustate). The original (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfjB1C4xZqg) has a lot of chop-scratch choral bits that the remix drops. The remix also mellows out what I think are harsh and high-pitched notes in the original, leaving us with something gentle and almost love song-like.

Here We Go Magic's (http://herewegomagicband.tumblr.com/) "How Do I Know" is much more straight-up rock-and-roll than most things I post. I'm not sure what it is, but I like this track. It's catchy without being kitsch; it's simple and romantic. And I deeply sympathize with the song's narrator who is asking how does he know if he loves someone? A great question to ask and answer, if you can.
http://audioporncentral.com/2012/05/buraka-som-sistema-tira-o-pe-jwls-remix.html
Buraka Som Sistema is one of those acts that people tend either to love or hate. Buraka are kind of weird, kind of electronica, kind of rude, and kind of in-your-face. I love their African-influenced stuff (called kuduro) much more than their electronica which (like much electronica) is too full of bloops and bleeps for me. So if you're in the right mood this is a fun track. Also, I love the photo that goes with this blog post. I want to write dialog for each of them.

Deadhorse (http://www.myspace.com/deadhorseband) is also not my typical kind of sound. They're labeled "post-rock" (whatever that might mean) and they're entirely instrumental. They remind me of the big-sound, prog-rock groups of the 1970s, but with the kind of mutation that comes from growing up on punk and grunge. This isn't the high-clean notes of prog, mostly, except it has the aesthetic to let all the volume drop away and solo piano take over. I know this isn't going to be everyone's cuppa, either, but it's a refreshing change from the usual, for me.
