A rushed version of Friday music
Nov. 4th, 2011 01:26 pmI've got to toss this out before something else explodes, so here we go

DJ Schmolli is back to doing what he does really well: mixing old old favorites with heavy metal. In this case it's mostly Foreigner's "Cold As Ice" with Rob Zombie's "Superbeast". Since it's his Halloween special, it's also got Hellraiser bits (particularly the video) and it's more than a bit scary. But in a fun way.

This video, by violinist Eric Speed (http://www.ericspeed.ca/) is making the rounds in G+ today and is likely to make more rounds. It's delightful fun, with obvious nods to Scott Pilgrim and A Ha, and will likely appeal to all the game nostalgics while having obvious modern dance tropes. Eric's site is in French and Google translate fails pathetically on it but you can get the gist.

Lana Del Rey's (http://lanadelrey.com/) has put out her second single, "Blue Jeans". The original (click the link on the bottom right of her site) is a little country, a little bluesy, and generally not bad. Penguin Prison strips it down to just her vocals and puts them back over a mellow house sound. I like the remix better, not too surprising. It will be interesting to see what she does next.

Chrysta Bell is back and proving she can sing. Live acoustic, and her voice just POURS over you like sweet warm water. Lovely, haunting.

DJ Frogg (http://froggsblog.blogspot.com/) has an ear for the underused here. I don't think I've ever heard Armstrong & Ellington used in a mash before and they're always fun. Plus Missy Elliot is underused and really works well here. It's kind of a one-off, but I like what he's done.
