No explanations, just music.

DJ Schmolli's first (to my knowledge) mega-mix and it's a grand slam. The short version, which you can listen to/watch on that blog post, starts off as an Ace of Bass mash-up and then just goes nuts. Much love for the t.A.T.u. sample. Also you can download a zip there with an extended mix that has some extra fun bits.

Pheugoo turns in a HOT bounce mix that is mostly Prince for the slinky, with Dr Dre and Pussycat Dolls for backing vocals. It comes across as an updated Prince tune, which isn't bad. I like "When Doves Cry" but it got overplayed, as did "Don't Cha". Reworking them both gives them a fresh and fun edge.

The Sound of Arrows (http://www.thesoundofarrows.com) is a new eletro-pop duo from the UK. The sound on this single off their debut album is just unashamed electronica, with decent vocals. The sound reminds me of early Tears for Fears before TfF went all emo and I just wanted to slap them. They have a big bombastic edge, too, which makes for fun breaks.

Another debut, this being a French Canadian soft guitarist/singer using the name Peter Peter, with a guest appearance by Coeur de Pirate. He has a lovely soft voice. Unfortunately the track is highly produced so all the sounds blend too much and there's not enough dynamic range. Peter is no Jamie Woon but I'd still like to hear him without so much muting on his vocals.

Made. Of. Win. This is a Swedish vocal trio calling itself Erato with an a capella cover of fellow Swede Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend." This vid is the first thing Erato seem to have posted and it's going deservedly viral. I am reminded a bit of Up and Over It, with their "Hand Dance".

Nu music

OK, that's a bad joke. Some of this is new and some is older stuff I just found. Also, I'm listening to some so-called "nu disco" about which more in a future blog, I expect.

APC did another of their multi-hour shows on Big City Beats. Quite a lot of good listening in here. The first part is a recap of a dozen of the remixes that appeared on APC in the past month. There's then an interlude of live mashing by Simon Iddol himself, but the best part is the last third, which is Copycat doing a live set with a bunch of his favorite mashes from the past few months. Copycat's style is hip and lively with a heavy dash of tribal and rhythm, making a good couple hours of listening.

Ruinmytune, which appears to be another name for Pheugoo, puts together a nice bounce mix. Given that it's built in part with Rozalla's "Everybody’s Free"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YgAw1G-4zY) which is one of my favorite vocal trance tracks. Pheugoo takes out the vocals, dropping the cheesy electronica in favor of a double dose of Calvin Harris's "Bounce" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooZwmeUfuXg). Kelis's vocals on the original Bounce are good, but I like the Rozalla/Harris combo better.

This mix is about a year old and I thought I had blogged it, but apparently not. Madmixmustang remixes two classics - Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" which gets remixed all the time - and Dead Kennedys' "Holiday in Cambodia". I don't think I've ever come across a DKs remix before and this one is insanely catchy.

Norwegian Recycling (http://norwegianrecycling.net) is a guy with a talent for multi-track mashing. He eschews the simple A/B pairings in favor of blending 4 or more related tracks into a new thing entirely. The YouTube page has a bunch of links to his stuff. Some of the more interesting pieces - like the "Don’t Stop Believin" currently on his site's home page - have almost conventional song structures, sometimes the same structures as one of the original pieces. As such they are less like the megamixes done by Lobsterdust and more like traditional pop songs.

Another one from about a year ago, Marc Johnce taking the then-popular "Duck Sauce" and Dizzee's "Flex" and putting together a remix workout song with Ray Krebbs' "The Gym". I've always thought Duck Sauce made more sense as backing track than as a stand-alone and Dizzee can rap above most anything.

DJ Steveboy's latest mix is "Downhome" and it's a nice blend of bluesy, funky, and danceable tunes. Lots of good phat horns.

Mad Mix Mustang has appeared in a few places I've noticed lately so I went to check out the site. There are a lot of mashups here. Like any other big collection, you'll find winners and losers here, and a wide variety of styles. I've pulled out the direct links to a few I think are particularly good, mostly because they mash together things that you don't usually hear mashed at all, or in combinations.

"You Rock My Rock" is Queen/Michael Jackson/Joan Jett. The only weak part of this is where he pulls out Jett's vocals to use MJ's, but I'm not much of an MJ fan to start with.

"Don't Stop Bromancing" is another Journey mash, but put up against someone I've not heard before: Tim Berg (http://www.facebook.com/timbergmusic, http://beatport.com/artist/tim_berg). The base "Bromance" track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChzbYiYHOUU) is being mixed all over Europe it seems, and I can see why. It's a high-powered electro-house dance track with a simple riff and lush musical sweeps that just beg for soaring vocals. Paging Steve Perry!

"Fat Bottomed Girls Come Together" is an example of MMM's unusual pairings. The Queen track is a popular remix component, but here we get a guest appearance by John Lennon on behalf of The Beatles. This one really has to be heard to be believed, because it works really astonishingly well.

"We No Can Dance" is another good mix of components you don't hear all that often. I would be remiss in passing it up, though, after my musical adventures around We No Speak Americano. Here we have Phil Collins (*) singing over the jazzy riffs of the Yolanda tune. It works. And I swear he's sub-sampling just one tiny bit of "Chica Bomb" near the end there as well as one very clear "unh hunh" from "Da Da Da".

(*) I was amused to discover that MizA and I fall into the group of people who consider "Genesis" to be things done by this group while Peter Gabriel was a member. After he left it's all "Phil Collins" regardless of what's on the album cover.

Pheugoo, who I last noted as doing something awesome pulls off another brilliant musical juxtaposition by putting together Ace of Base and Kosheen. I don't like either of the base components, so not linking them, but this mash is smooth and funky-danceable.

I'm reasonably certain I asserted I was done with Gaga mash-ups. I am reasonably certain I shall now eat my words. My new heroes DJs from Mars took not just Gaga but also Beyonce and threw them to the heavy metal wolves. Metallica adds just the right kind of hard edge and thunderous bass that makes this the kind of thing I want to play VERY LOUD.

There's a particular moment where the mash shifts from the slower pace to the faster and you'd expect something to fall apart, but instead it just kicks up another notch.
