Today's entry brought to you by a combination of my repeated forgetfulness and bad weather.
I had to dash back into the house twice before getting out of the driveway to retrieve things and then managed to drive halfway to the station before realizing I'd forgotten my phone. Turning around I figured I was going to miss the train but without my phone I couldn't check if that would cause me to miss an early meeting. AUGH.
Anyway, another dash into the house, grab the phone and head back to the train station. Despite bad luck with lights and more traffic than I was expecting (see "rain" and "water-soluble driving skills") I pulled into the parking lot not super late. All along I was thinking "if the train is just delayed five minutes I'll make it". I'd say the train is late about 10% of the time. Sure enough it was on time and I could see it from where I parked. No rewards for not trying, eh? So I booked it across the parking lot, up the stairs, down the stairs - did I mention the metal stairs were wet? Let's add "balance exercises" and "reflex testing" to the "sprinting" part of this workout...
And I made the train. Seems the conductors were trying to sort out some kind of ticketing problem(*) and we pulled out a minute or two after I got on, still leaving at least one unfortunate soul on the platform.
However, being late out of the station meant we were late getting into North Station, so off I go running again to make the bus. Again, I was neither the latest passenger making that dash nor did the driver manage to get everyone before pulling away. I was glad not to be standing outside in the rain, but the bus was a packed sauna. I sweated more standing there amid the crowd than I did on any of the runs. Standing and sweating count as exercise, I promise, particularly when you're getting bounced around and tossed into adjacent people. How the driver avoided colliding with those cars is somewhat beyond me. Traffic means low speeds, I guess.
(*) I should say that the MBTA personnel are consistently good and helpful and nice. If only some of the riders would follow this pattern...

Date: 2019-05-15 05:54 pm (UTC)I admit that I didn't even think about the bus as an option, but since I'm already on the Orange Line, staying on it to DTX (or State, which is closest for walking) is easier, if I'm going to just miss the ferry.
Commuting inbound from Sullivan on the Orange Line is a giant bucket of suck, btw. Those new trains can't get here soon enough.
