$AMOUNT_OF_PAYCHECK - $COST_OF_CAR_REPAIR <= 0

(The car has about 95k miles on it - most of what's being repaired is stuff that you'd expect to last about that long. Still. Ouch.)

A front strut spring broke (like, completely, it snapped in two). Had the front struts replaced, and found that having the steering wheel straight means the car turns left, and going straight requires keeping the wheel about 10 degrees right. Dealership says steering control arm is physically bent out of shape, and it and the knuckle need to be replaced. They say it wasn't caused by the broken strut. They wonder, though, if someone hit my car while it was parked and pushed it sideways. No, my car was parked in an enclosed garage spot. Well, maybe a really big pot-hole, they suggest.
