Bad words and uncertain mixes
Sep. 11th, 2009 12:07 pmBad words (i.e. probably shouldn't play these loud through the speakers where the boss or cow orkers are likely to get offended.)

Mashuptown featured this track from DJ Paul V, which includes more than a few uses of non-FCC approved words. I like the basic mix and need to check out the DJ's site when I have more time.

They're also featuring DJ Fac's attempt to do a "Black Betty" remix. This is totally awesome song and should be good mash-up material. I'm sort of 'meh' on this mix, though, and just using it as a way to get you to (re)listen to Loo & Placido's "Betty Got Jacked" (http://www.mashuptown.com/2009/03/loo-placido-betty-go-jacked.html) which I pulled off Mashuptown earlier this year. DJ Fac sort of mixes down the Black Betty track, which I think is the wrong way to go. By contrast the "Jacked" mix pushes it up a notch with C&C Music Factory and more.
While I was away two more mixes appeared on Mashup Industries and I'm uncertain about both:

DJ Schmolli's "Ain't Nobody Humping The Ting Tings" is another attempt to use the Ting Tings who are very popular with remixers these days. I like his use of a Chaka Khan cover to make the sound richer, and I like the piano tracks, but the whole thing seems to fall just a bit short.

By contrast Dan Mei turns in a "kitchen sink" mix. He's working off the 80s classic "Rebel Yell" from Billy Idol, which I imagine all my readers know, and rapper Swingfly's "Singing That Melody" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pG_-dd58Ew). That song is also intriguing, mixing some traditional rap styling with... augh I can't classify that. It's high BPM female vocal overdubs with strong melody and the beats dropped to background levels. Just getting these two main tracks together is a nice feat, and Dan Mei throws in some vaguely credited "various samples", a few of which I think I can catch but most are gone so fast I have no hope. Still fun listening and probably a DJ I want to look for.
