For several years I've used the hovir.com domain as my private email domain. That address still works, and will for the foreseeable future, but I'd like to continue migrating my email over to gmail. If you maintain a contact book or email list that includes an address for me please deprecate anything @hovir.com and replace it with my @gmail.com address.

If you don't have the latter and would like to, let me know.

Watching the small set of new-music blogs I do watch it's still possible to see certain things come and go as different DJs try their hand at remixing popular songs, or reuse perennial favorites. Today we have a bunch of those.

First, we have another mix of Daft Punk's "Harder, Better..." I know, this one has been done TO DEATH but stick with me. The mixer here is Deadmau5, someone I pointed to middle of last month. He has a really good style here - not so much redoing "Harder, Better..." as he is sampling it and laying the samples over different beats. Although the track has apparently been around since at least 2007 I couldn't find any listing of what the other samples are.

Little Boots' "Earthquake" is another one that's in heavy rotation lately. It's a damned catchy tune all on its own - yes, it's a bit more bubblegum pop than my usual, but she's got more depth to her vocals than the usual pop confection and whoever produced the original track did a good job. So what Treasure Fingers is doing is stripping down a lot of the high-pitched pop effects and leaving a vocal bit that sound much more like a sultry torch singer, laid over some standard dance beats.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are another hot remix subject. I've blogged a couple of their things. This stream has three tracks off their remix album (EP) for "Heads Will Roll". If you're easily earwormed this one is likely to stick in your head. Simple bouncy dance stuff that various DJs like to take and play around with.

Some of you probably remember Eminem. Whether you liked him or thought he was an annoying fake who should go away, you should listen to this. No, really. The supply of brain-o is over there. Personally I think it's hysterical, but I liked the original so go figure. (Hat tip to MRF for the pointer.)

"The woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her: what do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach?"

L has decided he wants to be Yoda for this Halloween. Having failed to find appropriate bits to make said costume I decide to stop by the store and see if I can buy a commercial one. I call Pygment to confirm this purchase and she suggests we should ask L. The conversation from my side of the phone:

Pygment: Daddy found a Yoda costume at the store. Do you want it or should we continue trying to make one?
...
...
...
Pygment: No, it does not come with a real light saber.

(And it turns out he doesn't want to be Yoda after all. He wants to be a generic Jedi.)
