And I have these open tabs. There's not much coherent about them, so I'll just dump and let you guys pick and choose.

http://www.djsteveboy.com/slowlightning.html
Two very good but very different mixes from DJ Steveboy. The first is funk, funk, and more funk. It's the kind of thing that got me listening to Groovelectric in the first place - old funk, new-style funk, and funk-influenced things. I'm on my third listen-through and I still think my favorite is the 'regrooved' James Brown track.

The second mix, Slow Lightning, is a chill mix with a definite night-time feel. It's not, per se, slow - the BPM are high enough to keep things rocking along, but it has a lot of soft sound effects and sinuous beat lines.

This is a bit experimental for me and I'm still not 100% sure I like it. Maceo Plex brings in a deep, groovy house track that is at the same time urgent and understated. It's posted as a "techno" track and I can see why but what made me pull it out is the second half, which starts around 3:45 in. The track is called "Conjure Floyd" and this is where you really hear it. It reminds me of how creepy-as-hell I found The Wall to be when it first came out and how I liked listening to it with headphones so I could get all the stereo effects.

https://soundcloud.com/jenergy6/djenergy-are-made-of
OK, let's get back to more traditional A|B mashes. This one from DJ Energy mixes Rihanna and Marilyn Manson. It's an interesting concept and it mostly works. I like both of the original sources but I could've done without the long stutter build between the intro and main sections of the track.

https://soundcloud.com/djmayajakobson/maya-jakobson-how-deep-is-your-club-calvin-harris-disciples-vs-50-cent-vs-the-underdog-project-vs-maroon-5-and-more
I haven't heard anything new from Maya Jakobson in a little while despite adding her to my Soundcloud "following" list. This one popped out at me and now I share. It's an 8-way mash mostly built around two versions of "How Deep is Your Love" from Calvin Harris. I love the blend of the Harris track with 50 Cent's fast-talking rap even more than I love the base track which is my metric for a good mash.

https://soundcloud.com/trademarkvip/deep-talk-calvin-harris-x-kaskade-x-tove-lo-x-cuebrick
While we're on the Calvin Harris thing, here's another (very different) mix built around "How Deep". I particularly like the way DJ Trademark slams over to Tove Lo's "Talking Body". Sure, it's pop-on-pop and balancing the strong female vocals on both tracks is not easy but I think it mostly works.

I think we'll break here and pick up next week with some turbofunk. Yes, that's a tease, but it's a good one I promise.

Here, courtesy of a cancelled meeting, are the music links I didn't get a chance to post last time. Three collections and three individual tracks. First up, the collections...

https://soundcloud.com/deem-mashup/battle-bridge/recommended
I sometimes poke at Soundcloud's "recommended" feature. Basically, this lets an artist select things by other artists that they think you'll like. Kind of a curated set of recommendations. Herewith, DeeM & Mister Nono's recommended list. Several good things on here, but for me the winner is the Paolo Monti "Black Betty" (https://soundcloud.com/djpaolomonti/oliver-jimi-jules-vs-ram-jam-pushing-on-black-betty-paolo-monti-masup-2014) mash, just edging out the other Black Betty mash, DJ Tripp's "Funky Party Starter". Or maybe not - I really like the Daft Punk bits that Tripp uses as well. Let me know what you think!

https://soundcloud.com/djschmolli/sets/best-mashups-of-2014-selection
I haven't linked as much DJ Schmolli in past years as I used to, but he's still hard at work. This is his self-selected "best mashups" of the year page. I still think his output is uneven, and the material on Pirate Nation is better, but it's interesting to listen to what he picked to represent himself.

http://www.djsteveboy.com/talkingincolor.html
Another solid mix from DJ Steveboy, mostly tribal/tech house but with nice variation and Steveboy's own touch on several of the tracks. There's no single highlight for this mix in my estimation, but there are several points where I stopped and thought "oh, that's nice".

And now, assuming you want something shorter to listen to...

https://soundcloud.com/bootleg-mash-by-djenergy/djenergy-changed-the-way-you
DJ Energy pulls together a fun banger with several interesting change-ups. It's "Changed the way you kiss me" with a driving beat, some fast-rapping lyrics, and some great builds and drops. This is the kind of thing I'd put into the middle of a set - it never loses energy but it's got enough relaxed bits and bridges that you won't wipe out dancing to it.

https://soundcloud.com/elias-dogantzis/elias-dogantzis-set-fire-to-the-supernova-adele-vs-astral-blast
I sometimes think Soundcloud reads my blog because right after I made a comment about Adele mash-ups I got three new ones. Of the three this one is worth reposting - it's Elias Dogantzis mashing Adele with Astral Blast and it really works well. Her vocals against a stronger musical backing, very danceable.

https://soundcloud.com/lizzart/rihanna-vs-kiss-iwasmadefor-sm
And finally, here's a Dutch DJ who goes as lizzart mashing my all-time favorite Rihanna tune against old-school Kiss guitar thrash. This is similar to what got me listening to DJ Schmolli way back when - take a fairly recent pop tune and put it (particularly the vocals) against some classic head-banging metal. Excuse me, I'll be in my bunk.

Other things have consumed so many cycles I haven't had time to post music lately but I've got open tabs like whoa. This set of links will help you relax, cheer you up, or get you moving as you wish.

https://soundcloud.com/thomasjackmusic/thomas-jack-presents-tropical
First, if you also need some relaxation from the stress and angst of the days, just play this. This is Thomas Jack's "Tropical House" album and it's 90+ minutes of lovely, relaxing, jazzy, beach-inspired music. I've played this through four times since I found it a couple months ago and I'm still having a hard time picking out favorites - it's just uniformly good. There are a couple dozen artists throwing in here, and lots of them are original mixes, meaning if you like a track you can search for edits and remixes of that one, too.

https://soundcloud.com/beat-magnate/girls-just-wanna-dance
Beat Magnate brings an extended dance mix "for the ladies" by which I think he means that the track features a mix of dance hits and dance beats by female vocalists and female artists. There's no source listing, so some of the fun is in picking out who the samples are from. Well, Cindy Lauper isn't much of a challenge, but others are less obvious.

https://soundcloud.com/bootleg-mash-by-djenergy/lana-del-rey-vs-queen-and-more
I haven't liked many Lana Del Rey mash-ups, but this one manages to pull in both Queen and Rammstein and yet somehow not create a trainwreck. I think what makes it work is that most of the samples are acapella. Props to DJ Energy (http://www.last.fm/music/Dj+Energy) for that. The result is slower and much more beautiful than you'd expect.

https://soundcloud.com/dj-bred-2/mike-posner-steve-aoki-sander-van-doorn-firebeatz-cooler-feeddirty-track-bred-mashup
OK, enough with the quiet and mellow stuff. How about a high-energy dance stomper? This one is courtesy of DJ BrEd. It's built around four tracks that I'm not familiar with and sadly there's not a source list so I can't easily trace them. So just enjoy the result and if you're like me, get up and dance a bit.

https://soundcloud.com/philretrospector/moments-in-snoop
This one actually made me laugh out loud. It's a Phil RetroSpector old-style mix, using samples, Snoop bits, and Art of Noise's "Moments in Love". That latter is one of my favorite tracks and it's not something I'd heard mixed much. This isn't the most sophisticated mix and if you don't like Snoop you probably won't like this. But I needed some laughs this week and this is hilarious to me.

http://www.bootiemashup.com/top10/06-2014/Turn%20Down%20The%20Noise.mp3
Public Enemy are also among those I feel don't get enough remixes and mashes. They have such great source material it's really a shame. Here DJ Shyboy gives it a shot including Lil Jon and Survivor's one-hit wonder track. It's not the best I've ever heard, but it's worth a listen.

http://www.bootiemashup.com/top10/07-2014/01%20Any%20Way%20You%20Gotta%20Feeling.mp3
Just in case you thought Journey mash-ups were a thing of the past, allow me to give you Voicedude's Journey three-way. MizA you might want to avoid this one.

https://soundcloud.com/tossesvarvez/1992-too-many-ts-tosses-varvez
Saving the best for last - and you know it wouldn't be a real drwex music post unless it contained at least some funk - here's Tosses & Varvez with a seriously bouncing ghettofunk track. It's fast-rapping, funky beats and seriously get up and dance already!
